There is a strong academic orientation to the Morning Star curriculum, and the emphasis is on the basics of math, reading, English and language arts. Beyond this foundation is a broad and varied program of activities. These include music therapy, social skills training, recreational activities, Girl Scouts, Special Olympics, adaptive physical education, occupational therapy, speech development and performance opportunities. Several outings are also scheduled annually, as the children are hosted by various civic groups on special occasions.
All of our students have an opportunity to become involved in the many special programs offered at Morning Star School. Visit our Programs page for additional descriptions of our Enrichment programs and Therapies.
Morning Star School comes under the auspices of the Diocese of Orlando, Orlando, FL, and is part of their department of education. Our superintendent is Dr. Harry Purpur.
Morning Star is also a member in good standing of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), and we are a member of the Council for Exceptional Children and the local chapter of the Down Syndrome Association — known as "Downtown". |
