Direct Monetary Gifts

Perhaps the easiest way to assist the school is through direct giving. By making a direct monetary gift, you allow the school to use your donated funds in any way they deem necessary for the support of the kids and the school.

We offer a range of giving levels that may suit your preference:

$5,000 and up

Guardian Angels

Sponsorship Categories

You may specify a particular category of support toward which you would like your gift directed. These include:

Memorials - You may designate your funds be used as a memorial. An appropriate plaque will be located on the school property noting this recognition if the memorial gift exceeds $500.

Scholarship Fund - Tuition assistance is a critical area of need. Our yearly tuition is about $3,500 per student, although the actual cost to educate each of our students is around $10,000. Were it not for the generosity of our donors, we would not be able to continue our special mission.

Special Programs - It is always our desire to enrich our students' school experience by providing many opportunities to experience a variety of programs. The following is a list of our on-going specials which you may consider sponsoring with your gift:

-Phonics Program
-Speech Therapy
-Occupational Therapy
-Adaptive Physical Education
-Hand Chimes Choir
-Sign Language
-Girl/Boy/Cub Scouts
-Special Olympics

Morning Star Wish List

Morning Star teachers always have an on-going "wish list" of thing they believe would enhance the learning experience for their students.

Gift certificates to Miller's School Supply Store and Lakeshore Learning Center are gratefully accepted. These two stores are frequented by the teachers and have supplies we can use. For specific books, gift certificates to Borders or Barnes and Noble are also helpful.

Computer Software - We have some software-type products for Leap Frog, but need the Leap Frog "Write" pads to use them. This is a wonderful reading program for our students and one from which they would benefit greatly.

Computers - The biggest "wish" is always to have computers updated. We began our computer lab 15 years ago and were able to put new "state of the art" computers in at that time. We had enough software for each student to have their own and learn how to run their software on it. Those computers are now sorely out of date. Much of the new software we receive will not run on these older machines. Therefore, updating the computes is a major focus of our wish list. Software that we know students can use is another big "wish."

Supplies - Naturally, the usual things needed to run a school — copy paper, art materials, cooking utensils, etc. — are things we are always happy to accept.

Miss Kathy has an "ongoing" list of things we have seen that we would like to have for the students. So, please, check with her concerning the latest items we have listed. Thank You!

Volunteer Opportunities

We have volunteers who work with the students on a weekly basis and those who volunteer on an occasional basis as well.

Our biggest project involves our "Craft Moms" who come on Wednesdays and help students complete craft projects. In the past, these have included our "signature" bracelets, bath salts, soap, dog biscuits and candy treats. Not only do students make these crafts, but they also learn-by-doing to package them beautifully. Most of the items are made for the Auxiliary Fashion Show held in the spring.

We also have volunteer opportunities in the classroom to work with the students. Typically these volunteers assist on a weekly basis for a 1 or 2 hour period. They listen to students read, play games with them and work with them on reinforcement skills as designated by the teacher.

We have also had organizations volunteer to assist. For example, some garden clubs in the past have worked with the students to teach them about different plants and have even helped the students to start a garden.

We welcome any idea an individual or organization may have who would be interested in volunteering at Morning Star School.

*In compliance with the Diocese ruling, all volunteers must be fingerprinted prior to beginning their volunteer work.
